Stakeholder and Genre Analysis Assignment and Submission
Stakeholder Analysis:
While diving into my chosen topic of Trumps impact on cutting public assistance programs, I have chosen a few stakeholders that I feel will suit this topic proposal the best. My first potential stakeholder would have to public assistance programs. Also, government representatives and then the actual political parties. But after researching and trying to find articles either on various websites or through the UCF website I found that my best support would come from governors and supporters from public assistance programs.
So, to begin the first discourse that I want to consider for my project would be public assistance supporters. In the peer reviewed article, ‘’Budget Cuts Continue to Threaten State Medicaid Programs” three different advocacy coalitions are working together to make sure that Medicaid is not cut to help fund mental health care treatment (Kanapaux, Sep. 2004). This discourse can help add to the cause as evidence that it would be appalling for these programs to be cut because it can have a very horrendous outcome. Especially for those that really depend on it. For the discourse of governors, I found the article ‘’Taking a Scalpel to Medicaid”.
In this article, I found that the republicans tried to cover their cuts of Medicaid by saying their bill would offer greater flexibility (Gurley 68). In the article, you also learn how smaller federal Medicaid allocations will negatively affect the poor. By closing rural hospitals and not being able to provide care for low-income residents in these hospitals (Gurley 70). These two discourses are people or organizations that see the injustice in what it would mean if these programs are to be cut and that is why I choose them. They offer strong points and concerns that I myself have about the future and present standing of public assistance programs.
Genre Analysis
Governors:
When determining the genres that governors use I have narrowed it down to documents, emails, meetings, and letters. But the primary genre that they read and write on would have to be documents. Whether these documents are bills or proposals they are used. For example, George W. Bush asked the NGA to craft a black -grant proposal to send to congress (Gurley 71). This genre goes through so many people to be sent down to be looked at on whether it should be approved, adjusted or straight up denied.
As far as receiving information, many of these governors can do anything from looking onto the web and viewing polls or people’s social media to see what they think about various situations or actions Donald Trump has implemented. As well as sending letters when arguing on their view on what they see as a mistake that can be made as well as prevented. The information the governors or anyone in power finds to be convincing is the information that either favors what they believe or what can be backed by numbers.
For governors, I feel a very appropriate and comfortable genre for them would be a document. Whether that document be placed on a PDF file or printed out fresh off the press right in front of them. This genre would be suitable to use when communicating to me because in most documents that I’ve been researching on they include all the necessary information that needs to be included for that subject of that document. As well as a table of contents to reflect on or to
just simply skip to the part in the document that concerns them the most. For example, in Donald Trump’s new budget for the U.S. government ‘’A New Foundation for American Greatness’ ‘the document is a whopping sixty-two pages and goes into detail of the plans for the new budget of the next following year. Also, you can find like I stated before the table of contents that list everything from investing into defense to reforming student loan programs.
Supporters of Public Assistance:
The only genre that I have researched to find when it comes to supporters of public assistance would be campaigns or rallies. These rallies wouldn’t just bring in people to tell them information that they already know but try to educate them. Educate them in ways that deter them from voting for Trump again or still supporting him and his ideology. These supporters get their information through doing proper research like described in the article ‘’Budget Cuts Continue to Threaten State Medicaid Programs”. They provide research and various information for their genre that goes in hand with their advocacy or issue.
The best suitable genre for communicating in my proposal case would be to campaign. I feel like when you see people heavily involved in a cause it makes you want to learn and know more about their message and what they are trying to educate others on. Which is exactly how I would want to present my information or research to this group. The research that I have come up with for this genre provides me with an approach that I feel can reach people of all ages and backgrounds. The message can have a bigger approach than just using the genre of writing to one or twelve governors and presenting them with a document. I feel like you first have to start right at home and have people you see every day and talk about the issues that bother you with on your side. Your message can reach many by just campaigning and supporting what you believe in.
